Volunteers
We are looking for a group of knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to ensure a memorable Pioneer experience for everyone involved.
Behind every great sporting event is a team of volunteers whose dedication to the job makes that event possible.
Volunteer roles vary from 1-day commitments assisting with course marshalling and rider registration, through to 6-day positions, coming on the road with the event.
Registrations to join the volunteer team will open in January, but if you would like to pre-register your interest please contact pioneer@ironman.com
BIKE MOUNTAIN & COURSE MARSHAL
A role suited to those with alpine and trekking experience. You may be located in remote areas that require an overnight stay in preparation for athletes coming through. Your role will help to ensure the safety of athletes and form a line of communication between what’s happening on course to BASE.
AID STATION CREW
Based out on one of three daily aid stations on course, you will be providing the athletes with much needed hydration and support. This role is most suited to someone with a medical background.
LOGISTICS & TRANSPORT TEAM
This role is predominantly based outside, assisting the crew with all aspects of transport logistics. This will vary from parking and access controllers to dealing with our huge list of contractors. A great role for those wanting to learn more about the logistics of what goes into putting on an event of this kind.
BASE CAMP TEAM
Working within a huge team at Base Camp, your role will rotate between Tent City, Social Zone or the Start/Finish area. A great position for those wanting a varied role over the 6 days.
REGISTRATION ASSISTANT
This role is well suited to someone who can only help for a day. Located in Rotorua, you will assist us with set-up and running of rider registration.
ATHLETE SERVICES
Working alongside out athlete services team, this role will be the face of the event. Each day you will assist on the info desk, answering and assisting riders with all manner of queries and tasks. A great role for someone who loves meeting and interacting with new people.
ON COURSE BIKE MECHANIC
Located out on course, your role will be to assist riders with any mechanical malfunctions they may face out on course or back at Base. This role is suited to someone with bike mechanic knowledge.
